Task 2 - Site analysis and User research for UX-Focused Campus Spatial Design
This task involves identifying a space on campus that could be improved by adding an installation to encourage student interaction and engagement.
I identified an open area located opposite the LT2 lecture hall. Currently, it features chairs and tables for students to relax and have discussions. I chose this space because I feel its potential is underutilized due to the simple layout of just chairs and tables.
I personally observed and experienced the space to understand its usage patterns and current features. Additionally, I conducted an online survey and interviews with students to gather their thoughts on the benefits, pain points, and potential improvements for the area.

Interview Question & Response
User Persona
After collecting the survey and interview data, I identified two user personas for the area. The first persona is an individual who values quiet, comfortable spaces that enhance productivity. The second persona is a lively, creative student who prefers vibrant spaces for socializing and group discussions.
User Journey Map
For the user journey map, I selected *Sarah*, a student, to illustrate her experience — from discovering the space, interacting with it, to eventually leaving. This process highlights her emotions in the past, present, and future, along with solutions to address the challenges and pain points she encounters.

Reflection
Through this assignment, I gained valuable insights into the importance of spatial design in enhancing user experience. By conducting site analysis, surveys, and interviews, I identified key pain points such as noise, lack of comfort, and limited interactive features in the open area opposite Lecture Theater 2. This process helped me understand how different user personas, like individuals seeking quiet productivity and those preferring vibrant social spaces, interact with and perceive the space.
The research highlighted that improvements such as interactive installations, better seating arrangements, noise reduction, and enhanced aesthetics can significantly increase the space's functionality and appeal. Creating a user journey map allowed me to visualize the user experience from discovery to exit, identifying emotional touchpoints and potential solutions to address challenges.
Overall, this project emphasized the importance of combining user feedback with thoughtful design solutions to create spaces that are both practical and engaging. It taught me how to balance aesthetics, functionality, and user needs, enhancing my approach to spatial design and user-centered thinking.
